I’m back now to say hello

I have to admit I kind of like this blog. It had it’s moments. It also had trouble getting born though.

I wanted to work on projects, a hardware project did make it into a few stages. A software project not so much. Those unfinished projects have been the bane though.

Philosophically I am not opposed to an unfinished project anymore than I am an unfinished book. If there is a problem with either for which the benefit of finishing is outweighed by the effort needed to overcome the problem then most certainly it should be abandoned.

Still, naturally I wonder where the burden comes from (is it a product of the subject or a product of my particular machinery of “introverted self”?). On the other hand I am now a UC Berkeley student which erases some of the aspect of the question that is engaged in asking essentially, “am I inherently unproductive?”. So there you have it. I have new projects in my mind, but the priority now is for me to become better at meeting the academic demands of my classes.

Still I like the name and tag line for this blog. It is still relevant to me. It is even more relevant, actually. It has a central role in articulating my position in relation to the world of Theory.

Think of it this way. If the vector of modernity is one of increasingly disassembling traditions and assumption and it has lead to the self-reflexivity of Bartes/Derrida etc, then what may be required to return to the social realm is to regress.

Perhaps I’ll flesh that thought out more in the future. Suffice it to say deconstructing “slo-tech” will not be the goal, but showing how it borders deconstruction might give an indication of the direction in.
